This syllabus will provide an overview of the specific skills necessary to achieve these goals.
Language Arts
- Daddy’s Garden – this is a Carden book designed to develop vocabulary, recall, comprehension and phonetic awareness.
- Learning the Letters – this text develops writing skills, small motor skills, alphabet mastery, lower case letters and phonemic awareness.
- Daily Alphabet – the children will focus on the sounds of the alphabet as they are learned.
- Seatwork – is designed to help children learn to follow sequential directions as they learn to work independently, while reinforcing skills learned at the reading table. Seatwork includes cut and paste activities, writing the letters, learning to color while staying within the lines, as well as phonetic awareness.
- Literature – a variety of stories are used to help children develop their comprehension abilities, as well as reading readiness skills.
Mathematics
- The Language of Blocks – this text is designed to develop positional, spatial and prepositional awareness. Children at this age see the world in relation to themselves. This text is specifically designed to help children see the relationship between two or more objects, as well as develop numeric awareness.
- Learning the Number – this text will help children not only write the numbers, but develop an understanding of the abstract concepts of mathematics. They will also learn to quantify objects by developing counting skills.
- Seatwork – is designed to reinforce skills learned in small groups at the table.
Social Studies
- Our Social Studies program is designed to help children see the world around us. The focus of the program is family and community. The children will learn about community services, such as the Post Office, the fire department, etc.
- The children will learn The Pledge of Allegiance and participate in holiday assemblies.
Science
- Our Science program is designed to help children understand the concepts of observation and cause and effect.
- Observation of the natural environment and simple experiments are designed to enhance the children’s natural curiosity.
